Safety First
Having effective communications provides a brilliant safety net in the bush, but requires a little etiquette. Your UHF transmissions can easily end up in a farmer’s kitchen or a family 4WD, so keep the language polite and don’t say anything you don’t want in the public arena – derogatory or sexist comments about those in the vicinity are plain stupid. Don’t leave a UHF switched on if there is a chance the PTT button can be jammed on. This blocks the channel, halting all communications. And keep phone use to a minimum; you’re in the bush so enjoy it!
